Vortrag von Johanna Lidén: NeoConfucianism Is not a Moral Philosophy

Die HSG lädt alle Interessierten zu einem Vortrag von Dr. Johanna Lidén (Stockholm University / Universität Hamburg) mit dem Titel "NeoConfucianism Is not a Moral Philosophy" ein.

Aus der Ankündigung: In China, NeoConfucianism is usually placed at departments of philosophy. In Western academia it will be placed within the field of Chinese Studies, if it is at all placed anywhere. It will at least not or only very rarely be taught or researched at Western philosophy departments, since philosophy in the West does not include non-Western philosophical systems. I argue that NeoConfucianism has intellectual, emotional, behavioural as well as social dimensions like religious traditions. We need a much deeper knowledge about the intricate relations between its theory and practice to understand what kind of tradition it is. Furthermore, now when Confucianism is entering a discussion on a global level, we need to compare it with other religious traditions in the world to grasp the specific character of (Neo)Confucianism and how it relates to more general ethical rules.
